the true value of art...
is touching the hearts and minds of others.
a curious thought. 5x210=5 giant prints
A lovely friend has been donating little bits of money to intersectingla every month to help support the project, and indeed my never-ending quest to live art in this rough economy.
And that got me thinking…I have 210 friends on facebook and if each friend went to my blog and clicked the donate link and sent me $5, we would have enough money to have 5 of the 10 intersecting photos, printing...
for mr. frost
i find myself upon this path less taken
a path still, despite its green shoots, blades of grass, despite its fallen leaves untouched. and although the finality of its destination is somewhat less certain, i whistle a song along side its fowl, happy to have an explorers heart.
tennis balls & oil painting
While playing tennis with my good friend Tim Tori last Friday, it struck me how silly I am. I have been playing tennis for three years now, took 6 private lessons two summers ago, and am just now to the point where I can play actual games and come close to winning (depending on who I am playing of course). And you know, I am totally ok with that. I understand that getting good at something like...
it seems to me...

longing for 50x33 photos
i have five of the ten photos now. i am lying here dreaming of them 50x33. hung in a line on a giant white wall. longing to see the video sync’d and projected in a corner. watch people stop and watch what i watched. i am dreaming of seeing my stories, in ink on paper, my best messy scrawl displayed next to the people who i shot who i cant forget. and to close my eyes in front of a...

Jonathan Cathey
Last night, I had a wonderful conversation with my friend, and art world god, Jonathan Cathey. It is interesting to me, how certain people pop up and you have a conversation and through that conversation you work things out in your head. Things that have been stuck up there come out and lay out in order.
I had been going back and forth with how much I should try to control Intersecting and...

Excerpt from I@LA/BH Journal
“At first , the glamour of the place is enticing. You feel special just being there. Bentley’s and Rolls Royce’s come and go. Important looking people hurry by on their Blackberries. Rich women in large hats nibble on lunch under the umbrellas at outdoor cafes, enjoying their white linen table clothes and daytime valets.”
Excerpt from I@LA/SM&W Journal
“ On Santa Monica and Western, Ritmo Latino is the video rental store. The clothing stores feature mannequins with hips and ass. Nothing like the pale, anorexic sticks of Macys or Nordstroms. The mothers are young and push strollers trailed by toddlers. There is nearly a constant stream of noisy, squealing buses. All day, people cross the busy intersection to wait for them. Young and...
I@LA
Shorthand for IntersectingLA. Came up with it while journaling about the intersections I have shot thus far.
Your thoughts fine people???? Is there anyone out there?

This is a blog after all...
So I spent the better half of the afternoon researching various grant opportunities, or a general lack there of, for individual artists. I have been wracking my brain on how best to raise the funds necessary to get the first 4 photos printed on canvas ($800) and buy some software I need to edit my video ($100).
To be honest, I am not feeling so positive or great about things right now and I am...
